DESCRIPTION:Social enterprise company boss Dawn Hewitt is tackling a massive charity challenge to raise money and awareness for CHUMS\, the mental health and emotional wellbeing service for children\, young people and their families in Bedfordshire\, Peterborough and Cambridgeshire.\nIn June she’s walking 100 miles from Southwold to Silsoe to celebrate the charity’s 21st anniversary.\nShe’s got her sights set on a target of £21\,000 and she’s looking for friends\, supporters and sponsors to help her reach it.\nJoin her for a day along the way and gain sponsorship – an average of 12.5 miles – to make her dream a reality.\nDawn is passionate about showing young people they should never give up. DESCRIPTION:Shine Bright\, Wear Bright!\nWelcome to our main schools campaign which takes place in the week before February half term: Shine Bright\, Wear Bright.\nWe would like to thank all of the schools and organisations that took part in SHINE BRIGHT\, WEAR BRIGHT 2018 during Children’s Mental Health Week. We have loved seeing your photos and how everyone got involved.\nOur competition below is still running until 30th March 2018 – we have had some inspiring entries so far!\nFor more information\, how to pay in your donations or to take part in 2019 please email Anna on\nanna.bunney@chumscharity.org If your school or organisation would like to run any other fundraising events please do not hesitate to contact us.\n\nWe invite schools to wear brightly coloured clothes and donate £1 for a designated dress down day to ‘spread a little kindness’ and ‘be yourself’ via an (optional) themed assembly with videos and downloads available on the below links including our school’s art and poem competition.\n\n \nCHUMS provides Mental Health and Emotional Wellbeing Services to over 3\,150 children and young people from Luton and Bedfordshire every year and now launching in Peterborough and Cambridge. The children we meet need specialist support to help with anxiety\, increase self–esteem and build resilience. With your support\, our experienced clinicians are able to provide the right support\, at the right time\, for each individual child – allowing them to go forward and reach their full potential.\n• 1 in 10 children have a diagnosable mental health disorder – that’s roughly 3 children in every classroom\n• 1 in 5 young adults have a diagnosable mental health disorder\n• Half of all mental health problems manifest by the age of 14\, with 75% by age 24\n• Almost 1 in 4 children and young people show some evidence of mental ill health (including anxiety and depression)\n• Suicide is the most common cause of death for boys aged between 5-19 years\, and the second most common for girls of this age\n• 1 in 12 young people self-harm at some point in their lives\, though there is evidence that this could be a lot higher. However\, choosing the minimum sponsorship requires a large amount of fundraising to cover the cost of the trip so be aware of that if you choose that option. We are here to help with fundraising ideas so although the targets looks daunting we will help you as much way we can. \nExtending trip\nYou can also choose to extend your trip to have a holiday at the end rather than getting straight back on a plane and coming home. This is to be arranged directly with ‘action challenge’ and will be paid for separately. \nAge restrictions\nAs a general rule\, if a participant is younger than 18\, they will need to be accompanied by an adult. Typically\, the youngest we have on a trek is 16. Anyone over the age of 65 will need a medical form signed by their GP. \nWhat next?\nPlease confirm your interest as soon as possible. \nOnce we have a better idea of numbers\, we will arrange a meeting for participants with the Kilimanjaro Action Challenge rep (the organisers) for a trip presentation and a question and answer session.
