BECOME A VOLUNTEER
There are lots of exciting opportunities to volunteer for CHUMS, whether that be directly supporting children, young people and their families or supporting one of the many functions that helps CHUMS operate its many services.
Some opportunities necessitate some training before you are able to volunteer. These include:
Community Support Worker – Bereavement Service
Our accredited training programme is delivered over 10 weeks, commencing in November each year. Completion of the programme means you will be able to directly support children, young people and their families in a bereavement group setting. Groups are offered across the year on a Saturday and a weekday evening. Once volunteers have supported one or two programmes, some choose to undergo further training to enable them to deliver individual interventions to children and young people either in school, at home or at our office base.
Mentor
Our mentoring programme for children and young people aged 5-18 is delivered in Luton. Mentors undergo 2 ½ days of training to enable them to support children and young people on an individual basis either in school or another agreed venue. These young people may be experiencing friendship or relationship difficulties, low self esteem, difficulties with school engagement, health concerns, social isolation etc. For details of our next training dates please contact our Volunteer Co-ordinator.
Other volunteering opportunities within CHUMS include:
Driving
Some children, young people and their families are unable to access workshop groups or our office base. We therefore, need volunteers who will pick them up and take them home after an event. Mileage expenses are paid at £0.45p per mile.
Admin support
Our admin team are always appreciative of the extra support volunteers are able to give. This may include photocopying, helping to make resources, completing a database etc
Recreational Therapeutic Service
This services offers therapeutic support using football and music as tools for engagement. If you have a strong musical background or enjoy playing football we would love to hear from you.
Fundraising
Our fundraising team need to raise £650,000 per year to support CHUMS services and always appreciate volunteers to help with or organise events.
